In 2012, the Desire Drive Garden was born. Thanks to NORA, Green Light was able to transform this empty lot into a flourishing community garden. The Lutheran Youth Gathering in New Orleans brought 2,500 volunteers to GLNO, and one group out of the thousands of volunteers spent their time with us building this garden.
The garden is run by three community members: Henry Marshall, Jerald Horn, and Ms. Parks. They have successfully and continuously grown greens throughout the years and distributed them to other members of their community. We are grateful that they have kept up the garden so nicely throughout the years.
NCSY, a high school youth group out of New Jersey, has volunteered with us countless times over the years. During their latest visit, they gave the Desire Drive Garden a much needed makeover. After 5 years of use, the garden needed new soil and a new paint job to brighten up the place. If you are ever in the Gentilly neighborhood, go and check out the newly renovated lot!
