The dreaded time has come! Last week we bid farewell to the last one of our nine summer interns. August (and this unbearable HEAT) arrived, and our glorious interns started dropping like flies. One by one we have said goodbye as their school years approach and their lives resume. Although the summer was over in the blink of an eye, these nine interns made quite an impact at Green Light. With their help, we had the most productive summer in our history. They conducted outreach about our programs, trained volunteers, scheduled homes for installation, managed our social media accounts, and did so much more in their three months with us! As a direct result of their hard work, Green Light managed to install a whopping 17,588 CFLs in 1,007 homes this summer. As a result, New Orleans residents will conserve 9,929,672 kWh of electricity, save $809,048 in utility costs, and reduce their carbon footprint by 7,861,836 pounds of CO2. We are so proud of this impact and we know that we could never have done it without the help of our wonderful summer interns! We wish the best of luck to Nicole, Megan, Michelle, Tiffany, Dina, Piyali, Elissa, Lisa, and Alex!
We want to give our two Job One interns, Tiffany and Michelle, special recognition for their hard work with us this summer. They helped us out in the office, canvassed for Tip the Block, and went out into the community to install light bulbs several times a week. With the help of a handful of other volunteers, Tiffany and Michelle installed 889 CFLs in 45 homes. Their efforts will help community members conserve 350,266 kWh of electricity, save $40,894 in utility costs, and reduce their carbon footprint by 397,383 pounds of CO2. We are so impressed with and grateful for Tiffany and Michelle’s dedication to the project this summer, and we will miss their smiling faces and positive attitudes!
