Group volunteer opportunity "This experience was very unique compared to others both in NOLA and at home. One significant difference is the outstanding organization. Prior to leaving the Green Light headquarters, we were well equipped with all of the instructions and directions we needed to complete our task. In addition, we all were well educated on the use and benefit of the bulbs. " Alan Cantor, Ashland, MA "The best way to build trust and understanding in another is to share their truth is to meet them face to face and converse with them. Green Light NOLA afforded us this opportunity. We met people where they are most comfortable- in their homes. It was a gift to be listeners as residents shared stories of Katrina with us and life in NOLA. Exchanging light bulbs for energy efficient, more cost effective replacements was a gift that felt like an embodiment of the "Think globally, act locally" effort we wish to be a part of . We raised conciousness about energy efficiency and learned so much ourselves. A highlight at the end of the visit was watching the residents eyes widen as we quoted the long term savings estimate in dollars they would have based upon the number of lightbulbs exchanged."
