The Rain Barrel Pilot Program has officially come to an end! Funded by The Greater New Orleans Foundation, we were able to successfully install 33 barrels in 31 homes. As with all of our programs, we couldn’t have had such a successful pilot without the help of volunteers. Our barrels are cleaned, primed, painted, and installed by volunteers. The Rain Barrel Program is moving on to its second phase in January! If you are interested in receiving a rain barrel, please fill out our application online. We ask that all recipients share the cost of the barrel with us, so you will find a cost share sliding scale in our updated application with a breakdown of the full cost of a rain barrel. The minimum level of contribution is $10. Please take time to evaluate your own financial security to determine your level of contribution.
If you’re wary about sharing the cost of a barrel with us, check out some of these testimonials from a couple of our rain barrel recipients to see how happy they are.
“I am proud of my garden and rain barrel. I have been telling my walking partners, my neighborhood and church members about Green Light. I can’t wait to share my harvest with my family and friends. I will take pictures of my garden and rain barrel to share with everyone. Thank you, Green Light!” – Beverly
“Rain barrels are environmentally important, useful, and necessary. And most importantly, working with Green Light’s volunteers are a BARREL of fun!” -Brett
We look forward to installing many more rain barrels in the coming months. If you have any questions, contact Leah Baer at 504-324-2429 or rainbarrel@greenlightneworleans.org.
