Green Light New Orleans Internship Program
Green Light New Orleans is looking for bright and environmentally conscious candidates to pursue and implement methods to directly enhance the effectiveness of our environmental grass-roots organization. Much of our internship positions involve office work, volunteer coordination, research, community outreach, and social/digital media. We are looking to directly implement the results of our internships to develop key aspects that will provide for future success of Green Light locally and abroad. Interns are encouraged to think freely and will be allowed to pursue their ideas openly. We are always looking to fill several positions during these time periods so if you are interested in learning more about non-profit work, looking to get more involved in the community while at the same time taking a part in the importance of energy efficiency and environmental justice, Green Light New Orleans is the place to be!

Assistant Volunteer Coordinator Purpose: To organize community volunteer days aimed at helping neighborhoods become more environmentally sustainable & engaging volunteers after their initial visit. Description:With the support of the volunteer coordinator, the intern will organize and lead a bi-monthly community volunteer day. Duties include: creating an event plan; recruiting volunteers; advertising the event with neighbors and community partners; scheduling residents for installation and preparing volunteer routes; training volunteers; evaluating the success of the event and making adjustments each month. Assistant Rain Barrel Program Coordinator Purpose: To help build capacity of Green Light’s Rain Barrel Program Description: Intern will help assist Program Coordinator implement program throughout the community through direct installation of rain barrels. Green Light’s Rain Barrel Program is a citywide initiative that supports New Orleans residents in adopting storm water management and water conservation practices on their property. Installations are opportunities to converse and educate with residents about their unique experiences with water and their dedication to becoming more sustainable. Intern will be trained on all facets of the installation process, accompanying coordinator on installs and occasionally going out on their own to install. Installations consist of loading/unloading Green Light’s truck with materials, consulting with residents about their desired location for the barrel, explaining installation paperwork, undertaking the physical installation of the barrel, and educating residents on how the barrel functions and it’s uses as a stormwater management/conservation tool. Intern must be able to lift 50 lbs and be capable of being trained to use power tools. Hours: 10+ hrs/week, weekly schedule dependent on installations, thus will likely change week by week |
Green Light Goal Intern Paid internship Purpose: Working to implement the primary goal of the organization -- reduce energy consumption and environmental pollution by facilitating the installation of free energy efficient lighting for residents throughout Orleans Parish. Description:The primary responsibility for this position is installing energy efficient lighting for residents of the New Orleans area in order to meet monthly energy reduction goals. Residents will drive to individual residences throughout the community not only installing light bulbs but engaging and educating residents about other methods of energy efficiency. Other responsibilities include conducting outreach, which may include canvassing, attending neighborhood meetings and recruiting volunteers. Monthly compensation per intern will be a $400 stipend which requires each intern to commit to at least 10 days per month. Interns will be reimbursed for fuel used to accomplish intern duties. Assistant Fundraising Program Coordinator Purpose: To engage membership and raise funds to support programs that help New Orleans residents become more energy efficient and increase their household sustainability.
