A Green Light Christmas, Brought to You by Academy of the Sacred Heart
For the second year in a row, Green Light New Orleans and Academy of the Sacred Heart have teamed up for a special holiday fundraiser: hand-made Christmas Trees built out of repurposed incandescent light bulbs. Designed by artist Mark Kirk, the Christmas Trees were built by members of the Sacred Heart Environmental Club over the course of the fall 2012 Semester. The light bulbs come from New Orleans homes that have made the switch to energy efficient CFL light bulbs provided through Green Light’s free residential program.

This year, the trees will be auctioned off in a 3-day online fundraiser. In order to bid on one of the trees, send an email to rachel.dorfman@greenlightneworleans.org. Bidding starts today, December 19th! Bidding ends at midnight on Friday, December 21st. Winners will be notified Saturday and trees will be available for pickup at the Green Light office.
Green Light and the Sacred Heart Environmental Club first began working together in 2010 when three students approached Green Light about a partnership that became known as Green Light Sacred Heart. Since that time, Sacred Heart students have dedicated one day a month during the school year to volunteer with Green Light. So far they have installed 1,573 energy efficient light bulbs, saving residents $72,358 in utility costs and reducing their carbon footprint by 703,131 pounds of CO2.
