We believe in residential level sustainable solutions that are practical, accessible, and beautiful and that create better communities.
Rain and Shine Rain Barrels — by Green Light New Orleans – are upcycled, uniquely hand-painted rain barrels accessible to New Orleans residents as tools for reducing local flooding, alleviating burden on the stormwater system, mitigating subsidence, and conserving water for use in plants and gardens.
RE-INTRODUCTION
Rain and Shine Rain Barrels – by Green Light New Orleans – brings accessible, colorful rain barrels to New Orleans residents, making rainwater capture simple while strengthening community awareness and environmental impact.

OUR APPROACH
Our barrels are up-cycled food-grade barrels, obtained from local food service providers, painted by local artists and volunteers, and installed by Green Light staff and green job skills partners such as Youth Rebuilding New Orleans.
We install rain barrels at your home, connecting the barrel to an existing downspout to capture rainwater. The program is open to all residents living in the Greater New Orleans area. Cost share is a sliding scale, with a minimum of $10 per barrel. Applicants must have working gutters and downspouts to be eligible to receive a rain barrel.

Make Your Mark Rain Barrel Paint Kit
In partnership with The Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation and the STEM Library Lab, Rain and Shine Barrels offers schools the opportunity to paint rain barrels as part of STEAM Service Learning. Barrels are painted by students (K-12) and later installed in the community by Green Light New Orleans. The program was created to teach students about stormwater management, climate and weather, green infrastructure, and sustainable design solutions while they paint a rain barrel.
