Green Light Welcomes AmeriCorps*NCCC Team
We are so happy to have our shiny new Delta 3 Team with us. They arrived last Saturday and we put them to work right away! This week they have learned just about everything there is to know about Green Light, and by tomorrow they will be certifiable experts. So GET READY, NEW ORLEANS! For the next two months, we’ll be working hard to get out into the community, and we bet it will look a little bit different by the time we’re through.
Get to know Delta 3! We asked each Delta 3 member to write a little bit about him/herself. Here is what they had to say:
◊ Rebecca Masino is from South Jersey but currently lives in Philly. She graduated from Temple University in 2010. She joined AmeriCorps NCCC because she loves traveling and “wanted to delay the real world.” She loves the Phillies, horseback riding and her Pit bull Mickey. She recently celebrated her engagement to Eric Church. She doesn’t like fruit flavored anything and her pastimes include reading, and being sarcastic.
◊ My name is Jessica Corcoran and I was raised in the non-cornfield areas of Mount Vernon, Iowa. I am a 2010 graduate of Cornell College. Before joining AmeriCorps I was involved in volunteering, working and coaching volleyball. I have been known to bake my stresses away in the kitchen; my team loves when I make banana bread and zucchini bread. I enjoy traveling and giving back and AmeriCorps makes this possible. Fun fact, I can weave baskets and have a cat named Gary.
◊ Hello my name is Michelle Clifford, I am from Syosset, New York. I began my term with AmeriCorps NCCC in August. I have really enjoyed doing service and hope to make it a life long commitment. I can’t wait to learn more about Green Light New Orleans!
◊ Hi! My name is Emily Shea and I hail from the great state of Vermont. I graduated from Castleton State College in 2009. Having no idea what I want to do in life, and a little spare time, I decided to join AmeriCorps NCCC to help out my country and travel. I’m excited to spend 10 weeks serving in the Big Easy! Fun fact: I’m traveling to Peru in June!
◊ My name is Alix and I graduated from Boston University in May 2010 with a B.A. in History. I joined AmeriCorps NCCC as a way to give back to communities in need and travel throughout the U.S. So far my team and I have worked in five different NC state parks, mucked and gutted homes affected by flooding in NC, and built houses in southern MS. I’m excited to explore New Orleans and learn more about GLNO! Fun Fact: In August I’m heading to Thailand to intern at an elephant sanctuary for three months!
◊ My name is Drew Schaffer. I was born in Georgia and grew up in Norwalk, Ohio. I graduated from Norwalk High School in May of 2010 with plans of going to college for Mechanical Engineering, however I dropped those plans when I heard I had been accepted to AmeriCorps NCCC. AmeriCorps has been a life changing experience for me and when the program is over I plan on going to school for environmental Engineering.
◊ My name is Stephen..I came to the great city of New Orleans for the first time in September 2010 and was able to serve with Project Homecoming helping to rebuild homes in the area. In my short time here I fell in love with the city and am looking forward to working with Greenlight, learning about sustainable living and exploring the city!
◊ Marilu Duchemin is 20 years old and a Southern California native. If it was up to her she would wear a sundress every day of the year. During her time in AmeriCorps she purchased her first pair of sweatpants. She is someone who would jump in front of a train to save her obese, yet adorable, Chihuahua, Baby. Marilu loves spending her free days thrift shopping, hanging out with her AmeriGirls, and falling in love with life. She hopes to one day own her own Mexican and Greek restaurant called Fat Hats. She joined AmeriCorps to travel and spread her positive attitude through service.
◊ My name is Steven Cardenas. I am 19 years old. I spend my spare time fishing. I came to AmeriCorps to work on my leadership skills and learn how to work with others.
