ELCA Youth Gathering!

Here is a little update about what Green Light has been up to. We have many people that have been incredibly dedicated to helping with this project and now that we are in the final weeks we are in full force! We plan on giving you daily updates leading up to the event.

For those of you who did not know, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America 2012 Youth Gathering is coming up! This year, the gathering will promote Social Justice through three days of volunteer work from July 19-21. Green Light New Orleans will be hosting about 2,300 youth volunteers on Tip the Block projects throughout New Orleans!

Tip the Block is Green Light’s new program that connects local New Orleans residents to services that help them increase their energy efficiency, live sustainable lifestyles, and beautify their neighborhoods. Examples of services that ELCA volunteers will be providing are: building backyard vegetable gardens, installing rain barrels, clearing lots, and much, much more!

It’s going to be a huge event with an even bigger impact, and Green Light New Orleans will be keeping track of the good work these volunteers are doing. We will update project maps with real time information about their impact, including photos!
