Get Something for Your Service Through the NOLA TimeBank!
One of our partners, the NOLA TimeBank, offers a unique way for members to give and receive services. If you have skills to offer or time to donate, you can receive one hour for each hour you spend providing a service to someone else. You can then redeem your hours in the form of services provided by other TimeBankers with the skills you are looking for. For example, if you have time to drive a TimeBanker without a car to run some errands, you can earn time that you can redeem by having someone provide you a service that you need (e.g. having a someone handy fix a broken chair leg or a leaky faucet). With this “pay-it-forward” system, you don’t necessarily return a service to someone who helped you out — you can redeem your hours however and whenever you want, and with 225 members, the NOLA TimeBank is sure to offer something you need. Need someone to cook you dinner on a night when you work late? Interested in receiving career advice?
Need someone to drive your kids to soccer practice? The possibilities are endless, and as a TimeBank member you can post both your needs and your offers on the website.
Green Light New Orleans recently became a TimeBank member, which means that TimeBankers can now log redeemable hours installing our free energy efficient light bulbs for members of the community! This means that you can donate your time to Green Light and receive a service in return. With 80,000 energy efficient light bulbs to install and over 3,000 residents on the waiting list, we could use some volunteers to help us with installations. Become a NOLA TimeBank member and get something in return for the time that you donate!
The mission of NOLA TimeBank is to promote equality and build a caring community economy through inclusive exchange of time and talent. To learn more about TimeBanking, click here. To sign up for NOLA TimeBank, click here.
