Green Light is Participating in GiveNOLA Day May 6th

Are you a philanthropist? Chances are, even if you make regular contributions to support the causes you believe in, you don’t think of yourself as a philanthropist. Most people believe that “philanthropy” is for rich and famous people who give big bucks to charity and have buildings named after them. But philanthropy is NOT about the money. It’s about the passion.

philanthropist (n) A person who seeks to promote the welfare of others, especially by the generous donation of money to good causes.

A $10 donation is just as generous as a $1 million donation because what matters is the donor’s intention. Generosity comes from the heart. What does it take to demystify philanthropy? We’re fixing to find out. On Tuesday, May 6th, New Orleanians will come together to support and celebrate the nonprofit programs doing good work in our community as part of GiveNOLA Day. GiveNOLA Day is a 24-hour online fundraising extravaganza hosted by the Greater New Orleans Foundation with a goal of raising $1 million for area nonprofits. With a minimum donation of just $10, GiveNOLA Day provides an opportunity for ordinary people to become philanthropists and an incentive for individuals to join a giving community so that their donations go farther.

Mark your calendar for May 6th! GiveNOLA Day is your chance to give back to the nonprofits you love. There are over 350 nonprofits participating this year. If you are interested in making a positive environmental impact through your GiveNOLA donation, bookmark Green Light New Orleans’ online GiveNOLA profile and click the “Donate Now” button that will appear there on May 6th. Your donation will support Green Light’s new backyard vegetable program, which helps local families improve their household sustainability, decrease their carbon footprint, and save money on grocery costs.
