How Is Your Garden Growing?

This past July, youth volunteers from the ELCA 2012 Youth Gathering built 37 backyard vegetable gardens and a community garden in three New Orleans neighborhoods as part of Tip the Block, a Green Light program focused on addressing sustainability on a household level in three main areas: FOOD, ENERGY, and WATER. Because fall is prime growing season in New Orleans, we decided to check up on these gardens to see how they were growing, talk with the residents, and give additional support wherever requested. The residents, who range from beginner to master when it comes to growing their own food, welcomed us into their yards to show off their gardens, which were growing beautifully! We wanted to share a few pictures from our a visits. See if you can recognize the garden you worked on!
