Meet our summer 2018 interns
This summer we have four interns working with us to further develop our rain barrel and garden programs as well as to help Green Light fundraise. Sara Schlesinger is a senior at Tulane majoring in ecology and evolutionary biology with a studio art minor. She spent a semester studying conservation and ecology in Kruger National Park in South Africa and is a trip leader with Tulane Outdoor Adventures. Sara is looking forward to learning about urban gardening and starting a backyard garden of her own.
Katie Jones is a civil engineering student about to start her senior year at LSU. During her studies, Katie has worked in various research labs to reduce wetland erosion in Coastal LA and improve efficiency in solar energy collection systems. Born and raised in New Orleans, she is excited to help make her hometown more sustainable. While working at Green Light, she is particularly looking forward to learning about our rain barrels and fighting subsidence.
Mary Michael Quinn is a Louisiana State University senior majoring in environmental management systems and minoring in business administration and chemistry. She spent last summer studying in Cape Town, South Africa, and last semester held a job at Dees Garden Center in Baton Rouge, LA. Mary Michael is interested in many aspects of sustainability, and especially in clothing sustainability. Mary Michael is excited to serve as a garden program intern with Green Light New Orleans this summer.
Olivia Jacobs is a senior at Tulane University majoring in public health, with a minor in cell and molecular biology. Last semester she studied in Khon Kaen, Thailand and worked to create a sustainable ESL program for a local primary school there. Olivia has always been interested in environmental conservation and sustainable energy, especially in major cities like New Orleans.
