Ride for the Future!

Green Light was very fortunate to work with a fabulous group of eleven volunteers, all from different parts of the country, from the Ride for the Future Project (RFP). A program that is affiliated with the larger Better Future Project, RFP is composed of a group of young leaders traveling solely by bikes from May 22nd – July 30th helping people envision and build a future free from the burning of fossil fuels. Their journey is beginning here in New Orleans and ending in Dallas, 1,000 miles in total. During their travels they will be staying at local places of worship and eating a completely vegetarian and mostly vegan diet to promote sustainability. They will
partner with, learn from, and highlight the work of local leaders who are dealing with the health and climate harms of fossil fuels and helping to make their communities more resilient. Their ultimate goal at the end of this journey is to ask Exxon Mobil to return its taxpayer subsidies to the people whose health, lives, and communities the industry has harmed. Not only was every volunteer excited about his or her journey, but you could tell that they were all passionate about the cause they were promoting. I talked to a couple volunteers who had done other programs with Better Future Project previously, and said that they are already planning what project they would like to be involved in next year. I personally am going to be following their endeavors and everyone at Green Light wishes them the best of luck.
